The Interview

  1. Ask your partner the following questions? Tell them they do not have to answer any questions they feel might be to personal.

    Where do they live?  
    Age  
    Siblings  
    Do they have a car? What kind?  
    What is their major?  
    What is their goal for their college education?  
    Why did they pick their specific area as their major? Or, Why haven’t they picked a major?  
    Where have they traveled too?  
    Who are their heros?  
    What do they like about Chico so far?  
    What do they dislike about Chico so far?  
    What have they done that’s fun in Chico so far?  
    What are their favorite foods?  
    Do they drink coffee?  
    Do they drink Alcohol?  
    What sports do they enjoy?  
    What is the last good movie they saw?  
    What is the name of the last book they read?  

     

  3. Using the Sony Mavica Digital Still Camera take a picture of the person you interviewed. Use the diskette provided by your instructor.
  4. Your instructor will help you with the following:

  5. Copy the image file from your diskette to the classroom computer’s hard drive into the folder UNIV001C.
  6. Insert the image into the classroom Web page file.
  7. In the space provided type in the person’s name below their picture
  8. Be prepared to introduce your interview partner to the class. Tell the class their name and a little information about them that you learned from interviewing them.
  9. Hand in this interview sheet and your diskette.

Using the Web answer the following questions:

  1. What is the URL for the CSU, Chico homepage?
  2. Find the 1997-99 University Catalog and under the Table of Contents find English. Choose Course Offerings. What will you learn about in English 161?
  3. Find the class schedule for the Fall 1998 semester. How many seats are still available in English 161?
  4. Access the library homepage. Name one of the services available from the Library ReSearch Station.
  5. Access the Associated Student’s page and list an activity available through Adventure Outings.
  6. Find the Calendars of Events.
    When is the next Volleyball game?
    What upcoming arts event sounds interesting to you? (if there isn’t one, list one that sounds the least offensive to you).
  7. Access Colleges, Schools, Departments, Programs, Centers and Institutes. Find your major and look at their homepage (if you don’t have a major pick a department at random). What department did you choose? What information from the department homepage did you find useful?
  8. Link to Student Services and write down the times that the Career Exploration Center are open. What is one of the services they offer? Choose the Career Planning button and from that page choose Internet Links. Visit the Career Doctor.
  9. List three reasons students might seek counseling from the counseling and wellness center.
  10. What number would you call to schedule an appointment at the Student Health Center?
  11. Information Resources has information about the open access computer labs. Give the building and room number for two of the labs.
  12. University and Community Life has lots of good information.
  13. Name a member of the City Council.
  14. The radio station KDIG 106.7 FM Z-ROCK has Beaver Cleavers top 50 songs. What is number one today?
  15. Go the Anthony’s Weather page. Scroll down and give today’s temperature for Chico. Find today’s temperature for a location out of state where a friend or relative lives.
  16. Find and write down the email address for one of your instructors.
  17. With any extra time you have, start exploring CSU, Chico’s Web on you own. Find sites that interest you and if we have time we will share them in class.
