Anatomy of a URL
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locators;
they are designed to provide a consistent way to reference objects on the internet. A URL
is a web address that you type into a browser and it takes you to where you want to go.
URL's are case sensitive, meaning you must type them EXACTLY like the
actual URL, UPPERCASE & lowercase, and spelling counts.
The edu of the domain name is called the
top-level domain; only a limited number exist and they are designed to show the type of
organization the machine belongs. The following are top-level domains.
com = commercial |
edu = educational |
org = organization, usually nonprofit |
mil = military |
net = network |
gov = government |
