Biased Author Simulation
Later in the same column, Erwin reports
on her conversation with a tobacco executive:
To hear Singleton [the executive] tell it,
Camel cigarettes aren't advocating trophy smokes, trophy wives or anything like that. The
advertising campaign's aim is to make smokers laugh and want to give Camel a try. To do
that, advertisers have to "fight through the advertising clutter and stand out in a
crowd. "We thought the Trophy Smoke campaign might do that," Singleton said.
"The campaign's concept basically is humor, but it's also irreverence,"
Singleton added. "That's the approach Camel has taken historically. It's clearly an
eccentric brand."
