Updating Robots

Numerous of my URLs have changed but robots that search my sites have not
updated their databases.

Apart from writing individual letters to webmasters who may or may not
regularly read their mail, how can I advise people that our URLs have
changed?

Particularly with reference to AltaVista's search engine, it is now giving
incorrect information.
