[speculation about WebCrawler, Excite, and Magellan...]

Yes, AOL sold WebCrawler to Excite last week in a deal that makes Excite the
second largest search company on the Net. The deal has been in the works
since July, and is independent of all the other activity currently taking
place at AOL. You can find out more about the deal at

The WebCrawler team is enthusiastic about this transition: it provides a
great opportunity to get our message out and our traffic up. WebCrawler is
currently the third most heavily trafficked search engine on the Web, and
we are poised to push it further.
