Meta refresh tags

I've just started reading this list (and my thanks to the list owners) and
was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how a most robots will
treat a page that has a meta refresh tag in it. I would like to use this
tag on a clients site for their "Splash Page", but am unsure if I want that
page set as index.html in regards to getting the site indexed.

I would appreciate any comments,
