It occurs to me that you do not necessarily need a "moved" tree as large as all
of the old documents - this assumes that all of your old documents were in one or
just a few document trees - that is, that one can tell that he document is "old"
simply by looking at the beginning of the URL.

If so, it may be possible to redirect things without creating such an ugly
structure on your server, by using a script to do the redirecting and funneling
all the "old" references to it.

I won't go into much more detail, as I am likely to give solutions that work only
on the server with which I have the most familiarity (OSU DecThreads server), and
from what I can tell it does quite a few things many servers don't.
