So what I need is a default password for everyone accessing my site to
lookup movie information and a separate password for ActiveAgent which
wants to spam dozens of email addresses (we have a list of mailing lists
among other things at our site :-/ ).
Do I need to block all access and say "Please register in order that
1 awkward individual can spam the rest of the web but not this site" ?
What's to stop some spam-head user of ActiveAgent from registering as a
responsible human being and then setting off the address collector ?
Passwords are impractical and do not solve the problem. Robert, YOU are
the problem.
Robert, is ActiveAgent an elaborate joke ? are you having a good old laugh
at us all for falling for your hoax ? I have to ask because I'm baffled
why you're so insistent that automatically annoying thousands of people
you don't know is a) worthwhile b) defendable.
Why you bother to participate in this list I'll never know, you've no
interest in what other people think.
If you say that AA is a java app so there's no way for it to identify
itself properly, then that's a serious design flaw; one that must be
fixed or the idea should be scrapped.
